Conventions of a News Studio Evaluation

The mode of address to the public is an important convention in a news report because the reporters have to look serious and act professional in order to gain trust from the audience so they believe the news you are telling them. Anthony’s tone of voice in the report implies that he isn't really bothered nor cares about addressing the news to the public; this would reduce the likelihood of believability. His accent determines that he is from the East of London due to his common voice when he says “You wot m8?”  This wouldn't be suitable in a news report because the presenters are usually white males that use proper English.

In Prinul and Farhana’s video, they showed what conventions were used in a typical news report. Prinul’s appearance gave the impression that the report wasn't serious because he wasn't formally dressed and walked to the chair eating food. This is never done on television because the presenter is usually dressed quite formally in a suit and tie with a handful of papers or laptop on the desk symbolising that he is ready to tell the public the news. The body language is important during a news report because they need to look serious and confidence on set, Prinul seems very relaxed and unprofessional on camera which would affect the audience’s believe and trust in whatever he was saying.

In Thajeethan’s news report, there are multiple camera techniques that are used e.g. mid shots, close ups and panning establishing shots. This is commonly used in news story to emphasise the matter of the story that is being reported. There are also a series of locations used in this story, using different locations in a news reports implies that whatever is happening is big and related to different places making the report seem more important and serious. The most effective convention used in the report was the graphics. There was a continuous show of graphics in this news report to show the location, time, interviewee/voxpopper and News Company. Using graphic adds more effect to the report and makes it more believable, implying to the audience that the news is trustworthy.

This video is more or less a spoof of a news report that shows everything that is done but incorrectly. Patronising and clownish music is playing throughout the report to give the impression that report is funny and entirely humour based.  The music stops every time I say something stupid or ask a question that a normal news reporter would know.  There are no graphics or images in this news report to show that this video is of bad quality and professionalism.  Lastly, towards the end of the report, I say “technical difficulties”  implying that whenever there is actual difficulties with equipment or presenters are late to start talking, they must cut them off to avoid any mistakes.
